On 25th of February each year Meher Baba’s Birthday is celebrated throughout the world by his followers at their local Centers, as well as a large number of disciples gather at Meherabad to attend the morning 5.0 a.m. Arti. At five in the morning on 25 February, pilgrims gather at Meher Baba’s Samadhi on Meherabad Hill for prayers and songs in celebration of the birth of the Ancient One, later followed by Plays and singing etc., during the afternoon at the Theater Building at lower Meherabad. From July 10, 1925 until his death in 1969, Meher Baba was silent. He communicated first by using an alphabet board, and later by hand gestures which were interpreted and spoken out by one of his mandali (devoted disciples), usually by his disciple Eruch Jessawala. For many years, Baba asked his followers to undertake austerities on this date. These took various forms: in addition to keeping silence, Baba had asked his followers to fast, to pray, to repeat the names of God, and similar practices. Prayers and Aarti are performed at Meher Baba’s Samadhi Every day at 7.00 am and 7.00 pm IST. The visitors are allowed to attend the morning and evening Prayers and Aarti. Both the Prayers – Parvardigar Prayer or the Universal Prayer and the Repentance Prayer or the Prayer of Repentance are recited twice a day on scheduled time followed by Aarti in English and in Indian languages.
