Meher Mount
Our mission is to preserve and enhance Meher Mount as a universal center open to all for inspiration, education, recreation, ecology, and humanitarian service. We seek to protect the natural environment, to foster respect for human dignity and diversity, and to awaken awareness of the oneness of all creation.
The Meher Mount property was left in trust to Meher Mount Corp, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization created by Agnes Baron to manage the property that she had owned and cared for during the last 48 years of her life. Agnes Baron was one of the original people to find the namesake property in 1946, at the request of Avatar Meher Baba.
Meher Baba visited Meher Mount on August 2, 1956. Today, it is a Center open to all for day visits and events with the theme of loving God through the conscious awareness of nature. When Avatar Meher Baba visited he said, “Go out and see the view and try to love Me (God) through nature”.

Meher Mount has long been an inspiring place for prayer and meditation. The Native American Chumash traditionally have ceremony here. For followers of Avatar Meher Baba, a particular attraction is “Baba’s Tree,” a great Coastal California live oak under which Baba sat in 1956. On His visit to the tree, Meher Baba also said, “this land is very old; I have been here before”. “Meher” means “compassion” in the Persian language, Farsi. So welcome to the “Mount of Compassion” which from 1946 to 1956, received visits by Paramahansa Yogananda, Jiddu Krishnamurti, as well as, it’s namesake the Avatar of the Age, Meher Baba.
