Avatar’s Abode

There are cleared grassy areas and flower gardens around and near Baba’s House, the lovely old frangipani tree being a particular landmark.

Along walks below Baba’s House there are tall eucalypts; at a further distance there are groves of casuarina, and in the creek gullies rainforest plants predominate.

The property is the home of hundreds of species of Australian plants and much of Avatar’s Abode remains natural bushland. It is the habitat for many native birds and animals including wallabies, kookaburras, lorikeets, magpies, koalas, and bush turkeys.

He specified there was to be no publicity, no professional films or photographs and no meetings with people who were merely interested in Him. By Meher Baba’s wish, Avatar’s Abode can never be sold, but must be kept as a place of pilgrimage, a priceless treasure for generations to come.

Location

Situated 100 km north of Brisbane – the capital city of Queensland, Australia – Avatar’s Abode is just 6 km inland on the Sunshine Coast, a popular holiday destination with surfing beaches and beautiful countryside.

Local Transport

Avatar’s Abode is situated 4km from the village of Woombye which has a rail and bus service to towns in the area and Brisbane. However, as Avatar’s Abode is in a bush setting and is isolated, hiring a car is an advantage. The surrounding country is very beautiful and has many lovely areas to visit. But they are not well serviced with public transport. Sometimes local Baba Lovers can help out.

When to visit?

All year round. A special time to come is for the Anniversary of Meher Baba’s visit to the property. The Anniversaries are held on the Queen’s Birthday three-day weekend in June — this is held on weekend with the second Saturday in June. Accommodation on the property at this time is generally only available to volunteer workers at the Anniversary.
